Having previously worked with suppliers both in Australia & overseas, sometimes it proved difficult when it came to the design process. There was a lot of back & forth with samples and small runs. As a result, I opted to travel to China and discuss these things face to face. Although not everything is done there, it was still important to visit and meet some of the people who helped produce the end product.
China was meant to happen in July but when I began to check-in late one Friday night I realized I never had a visa…
Anyways, fast forward to the 16th August, Visa in hand, I boarded my flight successfully. Next stop – Beijing. I’ve seen a few places in my life but most of the time, English is the first language. In China, English was not.
To sum up; chopsticks, crazy driving, unusual food, lots of bikes, lots of mopeds, more bikes, lots of people, Pang (my awesome Airbnb host), subways, getting lost, getting found, finding KFC, eating KFC (twice), Chinese tea, markets and finally, a day of planning and designing with an existing supplier.
The trip in general turned into a bit of an adventure and reminded me why it is important to travel and get outside your comfort zone. Here are a handful of photos from the trip.

Although I flew into Beijing, the supplier was located in Baoding which is about 3 hours inland.
This was inside a local resteraunt.
