Bridging the gap between my twenties & thirties, it seemed only fitting to name a collection after what it’s all about. I actually Google’d ‘when does your youth end’ and as expected, there is no definitive age but the numbers that come up most frequently are between 30-35. I’m currently 28 and in less than 2 weeks, I’ll be 29.
What defines your youth is a question that most of us will have a different answer to and to be honest, some might not know because they believe they never leave it. It’s not a bad way to be but when I think about the things that contributed most, making mistakes and taking risks played a big part in it. You’ll never know how to succeed if you don’t know how to fail - it’s all part of the process. I actually came up with the collection name about 2 years ago and the plan was to shoot a short film to go along side the collection - that never happened and although there should be no limitations for creativity, time waits for no one and whilst juggling a normal day job and trying to do adult things, it proved more difficult than I’d thought.
The thing is, although it may not be obvious in the designs, everything leading up to this collection was essentially me defining a part of my youth. Like I said, everyone has a different answer to that question but it comes down to what it makes you do and obviously the type of person you become - that’s what I believe anyways.
So to finish off, what’s my definition of youth? What’s it all about? It’s about finding your way, and essentially carving your own path...and we all do that differently. You can shop DOY here or view the collection look book here.
